13 Sep 2004. The ICES Study Group on Stock Identity and Management Units of Redfishes (SGSIMUR) met in Bergen, Norway, from 31 Aug to 3 Sep 2004 to (a) review all reported material on the stock identity of the various redfish units (S. mentella) in the Irminger Sea and adjacent waters and (b) to identify the most likely definition of biological stocks of S. mentella as well as suggest practical management units. In order to be able to complete the assessment on S. mentella stock(s) based on the outcome of SGSIMUR, a Sub-Group of the North-Western Working Group (NWWG) also met in Bergen from 6 to 10 Sep 2004. The NWWG autumn report will be available soon.
15 May 2004. This year's ICES North-Western Working Group met in Copenhagen/Denmark from 27 April - 6 May 2004 to estimate the status of redfish (S. marinus, S. mentella) stocks in ICES sub-areas V, VI, XII and XIV and to give advice for redfish fisheries in 2005. The report is available here.
18 Dec 2003. The Marine Research Institute in Reykjavik (MRI), Iceland, conducted a survey on a research vessel from 21-26 October 2003 and tagged over 200 redfish with the Underwater Tagging Equipment (UTE) made by the Icelandic company Star-Oddi. Read more in the survey report...

11 Nov 2003. The annual Greenland groundfish survey on the German Fisheries Research Vessel "Walther Herwig III" is currently being carried out (20 Oct-27 Nov 2003). Have a look into the weekly reports and learn more on the redfish sampling at sea.
14 Jul 2003. The ICES Planning Group on Redfish Stocks (PGRS) met at the Federal Research Centre for Fisheries in Hamburg, Germany, from 9-11 July 2003 (chaired by Mr T. Sigurdsson, MRI/Iceland) to prepare to report on the international trawl/acoustic survey of redfish in the Irminger Sea and adjacent waters in May-June 2003. The survey report is available on the ICES PGRS website.
20 June 2003. NAFO Scientific Council met in Dartmouth/Canada, from 5-19 June 2003 to assess inter alia the status of redfish in NAFO Subarea 1, Div. 3M and Div. 3LN. The report of Scientific Council will be available shortly.

This year's ICES North-Western Working Group met in Copenhagen/Denmark 29 April - 8 May 2003 to estimate the status of redfish (S. marinus, S. mentella) stocks in ICES sub-areas V, VI, XII and XIV and to give the advice for the fisheries in 2004. The NWWG report will be available on the ICES website after the ACFM meeting in May 2003.
24 Jan 2003. The ICES Planning Group on Redfish Stocks (PGRS) met at ICES Headquarters, Copenhagen/Denmark, from 21-22 January 2003 and will meet at the Federal Research Centre for Fisheries in Hamburg, Germany, from 9-10 July 2003 (both chaired by Mr T. Sigurdsson, MRI/Iceland) to: a) plan the international trawl/acoustic survey of redfish to be carried out in the Irminger Sea and adjacent waters in June/July 2003 (January meeting); b) prepare to report on the outcome of the surveys (July meeting). PGRS will report by 15 August 2003 for the attention of the Resource Management Committee and ACFM.
07 Jan 2003. The redfish literature database now contains 619 references, due to additions made by Dr. Konstantin Drevetnyak (PINRO Murmansk/Russia).

19 Aug 2002. The literature database, currently containing almost 600 references on redfish (biology, systematics, distribution, reproduction, age & growth, feeding, parasites, fisheries & assessment etc.), was compiled in a joint effort within the REDFISH project. 26 Nov 2001. The annual Greenland groundfish survey on the German Fisheries Research Vessel "Walther Herwig III" was completed on 22 Nov 2001. 12 Nov 2001. The NEAFC 20th Annual Meeting was held in London/United Kingdom, 5-9 Nov 2001. The TAC regarding oceanic S. mentella for 2002 was set at 95000 t (i.e. re-iteration of the 2001 measure). The meeting report will be available on the NEAFC website soon.
11 Oct 2001. Within the EU-funded REDFISH Project, an important step forward was completed: The implementation and development of genetic markers for species and stock separation of North Atlantic redfish (Deliverable 19, see List of Deliverables).
24 Sep 2001. At the NAFO Scientific Council Symposium on Deep Sea Fisheries, held in Varadero/Cuba from 12-14 Sep 2001, a "Review of the population structure and ecology of redfish in the Irminger Sea and adjacent waters" was presented by the REDFISH Project participants Fran Saborido-Rey, Dolores Garabana and Christoph Stransky (NAFO SCR Doc. 01/107, Ser.No. N4495). 16 Jul 2001. The international hydroacoustic/trawl survey on pelagic redfish was carried out by four nations (Germany, Iceland, Norway and Russia) in the Irminger Sea and adjacent waters from mid-June to mid-July 2001. The report of the survey is available here (pdf, 3.3 MB). The final survey report will be published in the frame of ICES during November 2001 after the ACFM October Meeting.

04 May 2001. The ICES North-Western Working Group (NWWG) met in Tórshavn/Faroe Islands from 24 April-3 May 2001. The NWWG 2001 report, incl. a description of the status of redfish (S. marinus, S. mentella) stocks in the ICES sub-areas V, VI, XII and XIV and the advice for 2002, is available on the ICES website.
Feb/Mar 2001. The NAFO/NEAFC Working Group on oceanic redfish was held in Reykjavik/Iceland from 12-14 Feb 2001. The negotiation for 2001 took place in Copenhagen during the NAFO shrimp meeting 28-30 March 2001.
